Consumer Education Unit Plan

$12.50

Digital Download

Designed for freshman- and sophomore-minded students.

This unit has been a labor of love! Moving to a school with a high urban population, I wanted to create a unit that connected them, as consumers, to agriculture through the means of various activities. This unit kicks off understanding food labels, walks through meat grading, and wraps up with students learning how to design an experiment!

Students will have the opportunity to show lots of skills through making their own commercials, writing some truth about agriculture, navigating a stations activity, and trying their hand at telling the grades of different products. There is even an option to travel to a butcher or meat locker if your community has those available, if not, no worries, we’ve provided options to bring the butcher to you!

This unit is designed to be 12-14 days, depending on the speed of your learners. Each lesson is written to be 45 minutes long, including a bell ringer and closure activity.

The purpose of the unit is to showcase vocabulary used on agricultural products and the governmental agencies that monitor them in a bite-size way that is digestible for some of your younger students.
